Sites
A Site represents a defined IP range used to group devices during the discovery and implementation process.
Sites are typically used for:
- Segmenting devices by physical or logical network location
- Associating discovered devices with vReps
- Controlling agent deployment and device tracking
Discovery: Sites
Sites | Represents the global view of all devices registered in the console. Devices are displayed under their assigned logical site groupings for easier management and visibility. |
Default Site | If no IP address-based site rules are configured, devices will automatically appear in the Default Site group. This serves as a catch-all for unclassified devices. |
Active Directory | Devices are grouped according to their Active Directory (AD) structure. This allows administrators to view and manage endpoints based on organizational units (OUs) or domain-based hierarchy. |
Queries | Queries allow you to dynamically group devices based on specified criteria using Boolean logic (AND, OR, NOT). These are particularly useful for targeting devices during tasks such as software deployments, patching, or inventory operations. |
Groups | Device groups are manually created collections of endpoints. A group can contain any number of devices and can be used to apply tasks, policies, or configurations to all members simultaneously. |
vReps | A vRep is a virtual discovery agent deployed to scan the network for unmanaged devices. It is essential for detecting agentless devices and performing local discoveries within network segments where agents are not present. |
Unmanaged Devices | These are endpoints discovered during a network discovery that do not currently have the Absolute agent installed. Administrators may choose to deploy the agent to these devices to bring them under management. |
Guided walk-through:How to Create a New Site
❶ | Right click Sites click 'New Site'. |
❷ |
Enter details for the Site including Site Name (up to 100 characters long) and IP Ranges. Be aware that all Sites MUST have unique names. if you need to create complex site organizations, be careful in how you architect your site naming convention. If you choose to use IP Ranges as part of your Site Organization, please keep your IP ranges to no more than 50,000 addresses per range (if you need more ranges in a site, just make a new IP Range Row). You may add an IP address range as an exclusion, which means that specific IP address range will be excluded from any scanning. |
