Create Patch Wizard

A custom patch or update package (e.g., a .cab, .msi, .exe, etc.) can be uploaded to the console using the Patch Wizard. This process allows you to define how the patch should be deployed, attach relevant metadata, and configure advanced options as needed. Once uploaded, the patch becomes available in the system for deployment.

Prerequisites

An already prepared patch file saved locally or uploaded to your organization's cloud repository.

Guided walk-through: Uploading a Custom Patch

Open Create Patch Wizard

Go to Vulnerabilities > Advanced > Custom Patches > Click '+Create' >  New Patch

This will open the  Wizard.

Select File

Choose how to upload your patch file:

  • Choose Installer from your Absolute Cloud: use an installer already stored in your organization's cloud repository.
  • Choose an installer from your device: upload a file directly from your computer.

Once selected, the file will appear in the Selected Package field at the bottom of the screen.

Import Information

The system will analyze the uploaded package and attempt to extract basic information such as the file name, version, or vendor.

In some cases, this step may be skipped or auto-completed based on file type.

Advanced Options

This step gives you the option to finalize the patch configuration.

Click 'Finish' to save and make the patch available for deployment with default settings.

Click 'Configure Advanced Options' to open the full editor and define prerequisites, metadata, or resolution steps.

When you choose Configure Advanced Options, the Advanced Editor opens. Use this to provide additional context and control for the patch:

  • Name: Auto-filled from the file name; can be edited.
  • Type: Specify the update type (e.g., Microsoft Update).
  • Vendor / URL / Description: Add metadata for tracking or reference.
  • Version / Target Version: Specify the versioning of the patch.
  • CVSS / Severity / Security Family: Optional security-related classifications.
  • Controlled Content - Enable the Controlled Content option if the uploaded file (e.g., driver, patch, or script) is expected to become part of a pre-approved content library. Such patches are listed under Controlled Content section in Vulnerabilities tab.
  • Other Settings:
  • Requires Reboot: Indicates whether a system restart is required.
  • Allow User Interaction: Specify if user interaction is necessary during installation.
  • Weaponized / Public Aware / Counter Measure / Auto Fix: Classify the threat profile and mitigation status.

  • CVE(s): Enter known vulnerability identifiers if applicable.
  • OS Type: Choose the operating system this patch applies to.

Click 'Save' to apply your changes.
