Mac OS Updates

Deploy software updates released by Apple that include critical security patches, performance improvements, new features, and bug fixes for Mac devices.

To deploy macOS updates (including minor and major version upgrades) through Absolute console, a MacOS Patching Profile must be installed on the device. Once the profile is installed, the Mac will be automatically scanned for available updates.

The Mac Updates under the Vulnerabilities section reflect the same updates. If you have more than one Mac, the update list aggregates available updates across all devices. You can select and deploy updates from there in the same way.

Important Information

Updates are applied using native Apple update methods.

Some updates may not deploy due to macOS system limitations or Apple restrictions

Guided walk-through: Deploy Mac OS Updates

Go to Devices > Find and click on the Apple device you want to update

In the left pane, click on Updates under the Information section

Select the macOS update version

Choose a deployment method:

  • Default: Uses Apple’s default update behavior. The system decides the best way to download and install the update, based on current system state and user activity.
  • DownloadOnly: Downloads the update to the device, but does not install it.Useful for preparing the system in advance and saving time later.
  • InstallASAP: Instructs the Mac to install the update as soon as possible. May prompt the user or initiate installation automatically depending on system conditions.
  • NotifyOnly: Notifies the user that an update is available. Leaves it up to the user to initiate the installation. Good for environments where user consent is required.
  • InstallLater: Schedules the update to be installed at a later time, determined by the OS. Useful for minimizing disruption during business hours.
  • InstallForceRestart: Installs the update and forces a restart once complete. Bypasses any user postponement options. Use this with caution as it may interrupt user activity.

Absolute is not modifying the update logic, it only issues Apple-native commands based on your selected deployment method.

Click 'Save'

No task will be created in the console for these updates. Progress tracking is not available from within the Absolute console.
